Brain
About the brain: Your brain is a special part of your body. In fact it is the boss of your body. Did you know that the size of your brain does not show how smart you are? Some very intelligent people have smaller brains than those who are less intelligent. The average adult brain weighs about three pounds or the weight of three small grapefruit. For being small, the brain really works hard.
Your brain floats in fluid in your head. This fluid acts like a shock absorber in a car. Thus if you bump your head, the fluid protects your brain from getting hurt. If we cut the skin or bone on our heads, it is painful but if we were going to cut on our brain, it would not hurt. Take my word for this-don't try it!
The brain is another part of our body that is always working. Even when you're sleeping, it's doing all kinds of things. Sleep is like a time-out for your body, so you can feel rested and prepared for the next day. But your brain never sleeps. Even as it's telling your body to sleep, parts of your brain are awake, taking control of how you sleep. I hope your brain was working last night and made sure you got a good night's sleep!
